St. Lawrence Catholic Church Gathering Space Refresh
Redesign and Renovation Proposal
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Working with Fr. Jake Anderson and Parish Administrator Rochelle Shirk, I assisted the St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Newman Center at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities to refresh their gathering space. This was needed because the floorboards had dry rot conditions and the carpet was 20 years old and beginning to fall apart. The large fireplace reduced the usable square footage and the kitchenette suffered from water issues. Working with the church I assisted with fundraising, design and contractor selection and assisted through construction to help oversee a smooth project for the church. Working with the church on design priorities and options, we achieved a project that was 50% less than the original proposed bid. The refresh included cleaning and refinishing the terrazzo floor, pouring a concrete floor and replacing carpet, a new fireplace, as well as updating the kitchenette space.
