Ephemeral Facade

Bubbles, bubbles and more bubbles.  This was the challenge of the week long Catalyst program titled Ephemeral Facades.  The goal of my group was to create a temporary facade using bubbles as the material to create something that would heighten senses and add a sense of wonder to the everyday world.

The course was led by Leah Buechley from the MIT Media Lab and Diane Willow a local artist and UMN Associate Professor.

The exploration led to two scales, a small scale “wall” and a large scale “wall”.  Through the large scale installation we were able to achieve the “magical” ephemeral qualities a facade can offer.  What’s interesting was that we could “create” the wall at will, by activating the system.  We could also turn the wall off as well.
