Interior Remodel
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Changing choir needs and a desire to better integrate the choir with the congregation, allowed for returning of the right-side chapel back to a St. Joseph side chapel in Summer 2022. This change fosters a sense of symmetry within the church and helps the sanctuary be better aligned with other traditional Catholic Churches that traditionally place a Mary side chapel on the left-side and a St. Joseph side chapel on the right-side of the altar. St. Joseph was recently given greater importance within the Catholic Church as Pope Francis declared 2021 the Year of St. Joseph, the first time this Saint received an entire year of dedication in the entire history of the Universal Church. Since then, there has been a greater call for the Faithful to venerate him and this remodeled side chapel will help to foster this response at the St. Lawrence Newman Center. The remodel included a new tile floor, wall-mounting of the St. Joseph statue and providing candles and a kneeler to allow for individual veneration and prayer. The choir was pulled back from the alcove and their platform was dropped to better allow both physical and visual access to the side chapel.
